Composer Notes

Anyone who is familiar with the stories of the Bible has an understanding of the healing power of Jesus. In several instances across scripture, healing takes place, and not in a consistent manner (which is actually quite interesting). I grew up with the stories, but it wasn't until I was in my 30's, as a member of Abundant Life Christian Center, that I was shown a powerful nuance that I had missed before. It wasn't just that Jesus healed those people. It was the power... of their faith. Note this verse, for example: He didn't just say "go, for I have healed you." He distinctly said "your faith has made you well."

Curious, I did a deeper dive into this phenomenon. Was this always the case? Was it always the manifestation of faith by those that were healed, in that they pursued and sought out Jesus in such a manner? Or were there cases where healing took place, and the circumstances were different?

The answer is that the recipient's faith was given the credit... two thirds of the time. In two out of every three healings by Jesus, he said to them that their faith has made them well. The other third of the time, he conducted healing of his own accord, sometimes to make a point, sometimes to relieve one's suffering, and sometimes for other reasons. Interesting, eh?

Healing is an interesting topic. It can be the source of much debate among believers. But adding in to the conversation the part that faith can play certainly takes it to a new level. The combination thereof is the prime reason that this verse was selected as part of Foundation. That, and this instance of healing is remarkable, standing out from the other stories a bit, in that she received her recovery simply from touching the robe of Jesus. Her faith was so strong, in her belief that simply by touching his garment she would be healed, and that's exactly what happened. He credits her faith accordingly and tells her to go in peace.

Musically, this is one track that is going to have just a hint of cinematic flair. I want to portray in the music this woman's issue, her drive and desire to get to Jesus, and the challenge she faces in doing so, in that there is a throng of people between her and her goal. And yet, after her perseverance, she reaches her target, stretches forth, and then... peace. Healing. Recovery. The reward for the journey, and for the faith and strength it took to get there, despite all adversity.

From the Album Foundation

The above verse is a selection from the first release of The Words and Verses Project, which is currently in development. It is entitled “Words and Verses: Foundation.” Not only is it the first collection of works in the project, but the goal is that over the course of twelve compositions, multiple core foundational verses will be explored, setting the stage for future albums and themes.
