Composer Notes

The selection of verses for Words and Verses: Foundation was very deliberate, gathering a precise compilation of Bible verses that would cover a variety of themes, utilizing both the Old and New Testament, including content from each of the four gospels, and so on. The point from the start was not to simply pick twelve of my own personal favorite verses.

However... this is one of my favorites.

John 14:2 was quite possibly one of the first verses I ever memorized when I was a child. At a young age I just loved the idea of getting my own mansion in eternity. My mind would wander without end, imagining—as kids do— about what ridiculous rooms I'd have. A private pool? A bowling alley? A trampoline room? Secret passages? You get the idea.

Now, of course, I'd like to think that my expectations are a bit more realistic (while I do still maintain that child-like wonder). After all, what we consider a 'mansion' in the 20th century certainly differs from how the word was used while Jesus walked the Earth. And having studied the Greek on this subject, the word 'mansion' is more closely translated as an abode, a dwelling place. And that's still nice. Knowing with full confidence that I have a destination waiting for me after this life is still, years later, a tremendous source of comfort.

For the music, I wanted to combine a few ideas: construction, preparation, peace, eternity, a sprawling expanse that is both calm and fun... think 'SimCity in Heaven' and that might give you an idea what I was going for.

From the Album Foundation

The above verse is a selection from the first release of The Words and Verses Project, which is currently in development. It is entitled “Words and Verses: Foundation.” Not only is it the first collection of works in the project, but the goal is that over the course of twelve compositions, multiple core foundational verses will be explored, setting the stage for future albums and themes.
